  • Help with 2217

Ok, i was about to clean my 2217 for the first time (yeah i know its been like a year)
    ANYWAY....
i cleaned it but i forgot to put the very last plastic piece that goes on top of all the media. i turned the filter on and its running fine, is that piece neccessary?
Its the piece that seperates the media.

i used to run mine without it all the time.
i wouldn't call it necessary at all.

I have the little bio tunnels. I think i'm gonna take it apart again just to be safe. I HATE THIS FILTER!! I'm think i'm gonna try to trade it for a Rena XP3

It should be ok with out it. I have ran one without it before.

If you hate it so much I don't mind taking if off your hands.

If i didnt NEED it, you'd have it. I need to replace it with something better. I've never been a fan of the 2217. I liked the Pro 2 and obviously the 2262 but i really like the Rena's.

I prefer the xp3 over the 2217 as well.

No, I actually have extra filters. I always got backs for everything. Actually have two 2217 I don't even run. I also have a emp 400 and some other HOBs also.

                    Back-ups man. Everyone needs back-ups.

I ran my 2217 with that piece installed upside down. Some filter floss ended up inside the impellar as a result.

I would say if your top layer is filter floss you need the piece. The "legs" go up and not down like I did it the first time.

Seems like it's not a problem for him.
