  • Driftwood....

I have a question about the driftwood that I've been collecting from the San Jacinto river....

What kind of a cleaning process should I put it through?

How fresh, or old, should the wood be that I collect? Or does it matter?

If cutting and attaching to a slate tile (like the pieces in pet stores) what is the best way to attach the wood to the slate? Drilled hole through slate with brass screw? Some type of adhesive?

Any types of wood to stay away from?

Ok, so that was more than one question
    A mouth will say anything....:ym_chatterbox:....Take a picture!!!!

Boil the hell out of it. I'd say at least 2 - 3 hours.

If the wood is really old, it could just rot in the tank. Especially if it's a soft wood.

I wouldn't use an adhesive. Maybe something in a stainless steel.

Stay away from soft woods. They will rot a lot faster than harder wood.

Submerge it in saltwater for a couple of weeks or untill it sinks

avoid wood that still has the bark on it
& woods with sap still in them

I use sheetrock screws but the do rust where they are exposed and have to be replaced in a few years. SS or brass wood screws will last longer. Helps if you drill a small pilot hole where you want the screw to go.

      branches with thorns on them.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
