Off topic but relevant: I got into it with a book writing moron once ... I swear that he was of the school "do as I say not as I do" and "your method is wrong mine is the only right one".... The point I wish to make is not everything your gonna read in books or on the web is gonna be 100% or well even 60% correct. So read as much as you can find on the subjects you want to know about and TAKE WHAT THEY SAY AS GOSPEL WITH A GRAIN OF SAND. because what works for some dont work for all and you may find that there is wisdom in learning from others mistakes.

Use all available resources. I have books which I read and forums to which I belong and each are valuable. As suggested, take anything stated as Gospel with a grain of salt. In 40+ years of fishkeeping I've found a few hard and fast rules, the rest is conditional to an individual tank. Foremost, don't be afraid to ask questions. That's where communities like ours and forums in general come in handy. You can't ask a book questions... well, you can but people will look at you funny.
MarkWhat are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.
