Something told me not to buy from this place when the owner and I started a conversation about ICH and he told me that it wasnt anything that the petstores could do. Its not a parasite or anything told me it was only due to stress and nothing more. Well I told myself hes and idiot and shoulda left but tanks looked clean and fish looked healthy so I bought some clown loaches. I put 3 in a 55 tank and 2 in my 30 gallon and I got an ICH infestation. I did some more research on ICH and it is a parasite. Well thanks to FISH LAND I have lost about 20 fish total so far and still havent got it under control. I left on vacation couple days after I put them in there and came home to find a tank full of ICH'd fish. I have lost 3 bala sharks, all my loaches, neon tetras, glowlight tetras, and some other guppy like thing i have that i dont know what they are other than dead. SO LOOK OUT DONT BUY FROM HIM. I gonna stick to my best place with no problems ever yet. Petsmart off of 290 and Spring Cypressl.

Re: FISH LAND off of Westihiemer is an ICK FARM
No offence intended, You learnt a valuable lesson.
ALWAYS QT NEW FISH..
If you still have fish alive in the tanks, crank up the temp to 90-92, add salt 1tbsp/5 gallons, and add an airpump. Leave it at 90-92 for a couple of days then lower it slowly back to what it was before. I havent had ICH in a while but thats how i took care of it.

Re: FISH LAND off of Westihiemer is an ICK FARM
When fish such as loaches get moved and stressed, they always come down with ich.
Surgeonfish are the same with SW, whenever they're moved, be prepared to treat what follows.- When Life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make Life take the damn lemons back!

Re: FISH LAND off of Westihiemer is an ICK FARM
I have also heard that ick, it is either in your water or it is not. Not really anything to do with the fish well, unless it already has it that it all has to do with the fish.
The last time I had ick, I did a water change after some heavy rain storms and before I knew it my loaches had it and I didn't add any new fish. With quick action, I was able to save all my loaches, what makes the story wierd is that my buddy did the same thing at the same time and he loaches ended up with ick without adding an new fish. This was about, man two years ago or so.
I ran into him like a week or so after the fish had contracted the ick and he was like no kidding my got that crap too.. and all I did was a water change, so the only thing we came up with is that the faithful water co. forgot to add something to the water and it enter our tanks from adding fresh water.
I would highly ticked if I lost fish because of that, I have some monster loaches that have taken for ever to get as big as they are, to get bogus info like that is a straight out lie and a guy just trying to sell you something when knows good and dang well that he is lying to you but is out to make the buck. Throw a brick through his tank, stress and nothing more!

ICH
Prevention:
Quarantine new fish for two weeks
Treat plants before adding to tank
Maintain high water quality
Provide fish with a nutritionally balanced diet
The best way to avoid ich is to quarantine all new fish in a separate tank for two weeks before moving them to the regular tank. When quarantine is not possible, a prophylactic treatment may be used. Either methylene blue or malachite green given when new fish are introduced and again four days later will help reduce incidence of infection. New plants should also be treated, as they can carry ich cysts.
Dose based on the package instructions, however cut dosages in half when treating scaleless catfish and tetras. Regardless of the medication used, treatment should be given continuously for 10-14 days to ensure all parasites are killed. Between treatments a partial water change is recommended. Keep water temperatures higher than usual to speed up the life cycle of the parasite. Discontinue carbon filtration during treatment, as it will remove the chemicals.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. Clown loaches are more susceptable to it.
Stress is probably the main thing that promotes the disease since it does weaken their immune system. Another thing is that clowns aren't captive bred so what you are getting is wildcaughts which another thing.

Re: ICH problem
Please don't bash our local stores with statements like your old subject line. Every store will have fish with ich at one time or another, as will we all if you're in the hobby long enough. As a matter of fact, I went on a business trip and found half of my fish had BAD ich when I got home. Unfortunately I lost most of them. Let's focus on solutions if possible. I'm sure they would like a call and may be willing to work with you. If not, then that's something to share with us.

ICH
this is a link - click on it and get more information
Infected fish are covered to various degrees with small white spots.
The adult parasite burrows into the skin of its victim, feeding on blood and dead epithelial cells. The irritation caused by the burrowing parasite causes the skin of the fish to swell and produce white cysts seen as a small spots.
The fish feels as if it's been bitten by a mosquito. It's not unusual to see infected fish scratching against rocks and gravel in an effort to get relief.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'

+1 for Kordon Ich-Attack.. its simply the best medication I have ever seen for Ich. I put it in my QT tank when I had an outbreak of Ich and in two days not a fish showed ich on the body. Followed the recommended way on the bottle and to this day have yet to ever see the problem again.
I have bought many fish from Fishland with mixed results, the first time gave me problems but since then have picked up many fish then and not had a problem at all.
I like Andy's store, specially when I need hard goods because he is as cheap if not cheaper than anyone else when it comes to hard goods.
