  • 12" crack- 72G Bowfront tank used - Safe to add water?

Just bought a AGA 72g BF and I noticed a crack of about 12" long. It has been repaired likely by the previous owner with wood glue which stays solid.

Now I am worried that I may have an issue after filling water. I know water is very heavy. Experts please advise ASAP.

Also, I don't have a base plate on the stand, it is open all the way down. Refer picture. Is that normal?

I would think it is fine. If you are really worried about it get a 2 dollar 2x4 and put some more support in the stand. Thats what I did with my stand.

      Yes.

You stand should be fine as well. . . but I'm no expert.

check over the entire stand, be sure it's sturdy and the wood is without any dry rot or other integrity issues, if so, you should be good to go...

That crack should not compremise the stands strength much that much if any.....

Thanks a lot guys for your feedback. I took a 1X10X12 lumber , had it cut and added on both sides vertically on both LH&RH on the inside..

I used a construction adhesive and screws to hold it together. It may be little more than what I needed, but it gives me a peace of my mind. I filled-up the tank and it hold pretty good so far.

Now I need to run it for a while before I buy my fishes.
