  • RO/DI waste water

Can I use the RO/DI waste water for the water changes in my fresh water tanks?

i wouldn't do it. It has an accumulation of all that nasty junk from making the RO. Water your plants with it or do laundry with it.

If I did laundry by hand, I might consider it. All that nasty junk from making RO is not left in the filter itself?

well i just put the waste line into containers, i then pump water into my washing machine. I don't do laundry by hand.

The sediment filter traps bigger particles, but all the smaller stuff gets thru it. The RO membrane only allows pure water thru and the things that can't get pass it gets swept out as the waste water.

Test the waste waster with a tds meter. If its a decent number then go for it. But if its way too high I would just use that water somewhere else.

Unfortunately, I don't know what would be considered" decent".

I'm not sure It is as feasible to fill my front load washer as I could my older top load.

ooo..... front loader is prob a no. Its hard to say whats decent for your tank. I know i used to use 300-400 tds water for my planted tanks. But i guess it all depends on what you keep. You might have an algae prob with that water as well. Since it could be high in phosphate.

Most of the dissolved solids should go out the waste water line. But you will definitely have some stuck in the membrane. Attach a quick flush circuit onto your RO unit if you don't have one already. I flush mine for a couple of min before and after making RO water.
