    Re: need some help deciding

I would say go with the Terrors and a few others that could hold their own.  I had a tank with Terrors, Firemouths, Convicts, and a pair of small Managuences.  This was a good mix but yeah the babies are hard to get rid of at LFS's because they spawn so easily in captivity.  The other thing to look at though is that you are not going to get rich off of this hobby or addiction as some would call it.  I ended up just giving the babies away that I had because I had to get them out of the tank before something got killed.

You may have a hard time finding some of the more obscure Cichlids out there unless you don't mind paying an arm and a leg to get them for shipping and all of that.  Most places can order things but you still get hit for shipping if they make a special order for you.

    Just my two pennies.....

I'd be more than happy to take some GT's off your hands should you end up going that route. I could not help myself and picked up a very young GT from Petsmart a couple weeks ago, he/she is already grown a half inch and has a nice red outline on the tail fin. At first, he had his lunch handed to him by two small julies I got the same day, but now he swims around like he's the top dog in the house.

      Good Luck with your decision.

I'm going to quit procrastenating real soon, and post some pics of my tanks and the new fish I am keeping.

I would like to believe that if they where all placed in the tank at the same time, and the tank was large enough, there would not be any serious deputes between them, but like people, you just can't be sure of all of your neighbors anymore..... j/k.....your chances would be pretty good I would say.

yeah.  i think so and the readin i been doin online i dont see why they wouldnt still breed.  hell they can split the tank down the middle and have a side to themselves.  if i get some babys im not lookin to get rich or anything.  tell the truth if i have any ill probably give them away just to get rid of them.  i just love watchin the circle of life thing.  haha.

              Re: need some help deciding

I've had both green terrors and jack dempseys and I like the green terrors a lot more.  They are not as shy and prettier at maturity in my opinion.  Both are pretty cheap so I think it'd be hard to find homes for all of them.  Unless you plan on separating the babies from the adults you may not have too many survivors.  Then you won't have to worry about finding that many homes.  I've always wanted to breed fish and I figure I'd keep an oscar or similar carnivore and feed the ones I cull to him.
