  • Brown algae on holey rock and glass?

Anybody have any ideas? I noticed it the other day, almost seemed to pop up over night. Looks like diatoms in a saltwater tank... post a picture later tonight...

More than likely caused by excess nutrients in the water correct?

Just wait it out. I've tried the uv solution and it's a waste of money. I have had better luck hooking up another filter and waiting. It will pass. Good Luck.

I actually had the same problem when I started my tank and to me it was like a brown dust I just was looking for a solution and what helped me was reducing the time I have had the light on, I was doing like 10 hours a day and now I do like 6 to 8 depending on if I'm there or not but for me that work, hope this helped you to find a solution.

It's diatoms ... same as saltwater.
                    Actually... more accurately excess silicates.

As your tank matures and other silicate absorbing organisms start flourishing, they will out compete the diatoms and starve them to death.

Leave them alone and they'll go away eventually.
