Help: Pregnant or Sick?

My ABN pleco female has an ENORMOUS belly. SHe swims around and stuff still but it is huge.  Its kind of darkish black in her belly area i guess you could say.

I have no clue as to what maybe the reason for this, but I thought I would wish you well with the outcome. I would guess it's safe to assume she could not be pregnant without a male in the same tank however, but I could be wrong there as well.

there is a male in the tank with her.  They have spawned before, but I didnt pay attention to what she looked like.

Yes, she has this little log and a pot and a pvc pipe.  I just hope its not some weird sickness.  This pair was given to me by some friends.  if you go to Aqua Zoo, if there are any left, those are the brothers and sisters of these fish.  My friend gave them away to Aqua Zoo when she evacuated Hurricane Rita.  She kept a few pairs and gave me one.

Hey belly turned back to normal whitish today and she got skinnier and her anus is huge.  I think she layed eggs today.

There was blood seeping out of the anus A few minutes ago.  But her belly shrunk like an hour or so before she died...hoping she spawned for the 2dn time before she died.  What do you guys think happened?  Was she preg. in the first place?  Should I remove the male?
