  • Heaters?????????

I've read that a good rule of thumb is 5 watts per gal of water. In my case, I would need a 950 watt heater.

What would be the better way for me to go, inline or drop in style heaters?

I don't know much about inlines so, educate me please.

I do know that I want to keep a clean look to the tank. Meaning, not a ton of wire and gadjets in the tank. Inline may be the way to go in my case.

Lets talk price, advantages and disadvantages.

    Thank's for your help.

The "rule" that I have heard is 3-5 watts per gallon. But I find that rule useless..... It truly depends on where u live and the tempature of ur house/ room the tank is in, and what type of fish you keep. For instance I keep my house in the summer between 73 and 77 degrees. I usually unplug my heaters during the majority of the summer. But in the winter I don't use my central heat at all to save money, I just layer up in clothes. The coldest my house got was around 60 this past winter, and
The 300 watt drop in heater was doing a good job at keeping my 240 gallon around a nice 77 degrees.

A 1000 watt heater is going to cost 150$ and up. And I just don't see it being nessary when for your tank and 300 watt will do just fine. I got mine off of eBay for 7$ brand new.

For your 190g gallon tank since you're running a Eheim I recommend a 250w online heater. If you want I've got a couple laying around I can let one go to you.

I've got a Hydor inline heater that I'm really pleased with. I can't remember the wattage, I'd have to go look, but it stays out of sight under the stand and does the trick, and I don't have to worry about a big cichlid getting PO'ed and smashing it.
