Freshwater Community tank Question

OK I have currently a 15 gallon tall tank and looking to up size to a 36" long tank. I have been looking for used as I do not want to put up the crazy amount of money on a new tank of that size. I currently have 6 tetras, 1 cory, 1 brisl albino plec, 1 black molly.

I have found a used tank 40 gallon that has sand bottom currently with cichlids in it. Will the sand cause problems for tetras?

Sand is fine for tetras.
