Just recently upgraded to a 210 gallon tank. I'm trying to figure out what's a good aqurium filter with more than enough pumping power? I was thinking about getting the fluval fx5. It says for tank 400+gallon, but would that be strong enough? Or is there another filter out there that would work better? I don't wanna have to use two filter system.

What's a good and easy to maintain filter for 210gallon tank?

Kinds of depends more on what type of fishes you want to keep.
Low flow vs. high flow?
I highly recommend at least two filters so when you clean one you still have the other one running.
If you are only looking to have one...then look into wet/drys filters.I ate my fish that died.

I'm with...Thai . I highly recommend at least two filters . I have done it with one Eheim 2260 and an AquaClear 110 and the tank stayed pretty clean . But I later went with two FX5s...one on each end and it was a wrap . I was very pleased with this setup .

I would say a wetdry filter proclear 200 or bigger w/ a mag 9 or larger.
Then for mechanical I would say either fx5 or two fx5's.
These are the easy to maintain, and combined should be enough for just about anything you want to keep in this tank.FRENCH FRY!!!

If you go the wet-dry only route - You probably want to get some kind of HOB (or big canister of course) with lots of water movement like an emperor and stuff it with sponge for mechanical filtration. I don't think you'll get the clarity you want with just a wet-dry

What does HOB stand for? I thought that my 2 powerhead pump would be enough water movement? I still have a ehiem 2217 would that work?

I am using a combination of wet / dry with a cannister filter on a 150 and I am very pleased.
One nice thing with this setup is that you are removing water from the top and the bottom of the tank. You also get the strengths that each type of filter offers.
+1 on myjohnson - If one fails or requires cleaning you still have some filtration while repairing or cleaning the second.Jarrod - Houston, Texas
150 gallon - my African cichlid monster tank (I know it isn't a big as yours)
17 gallon - Threadfin rainbows and corys lightly planted
5 gallon - planted red cherry shrimp breeder
3 gallon - planted red cherry shrimp breeder

Defintely 2 filters. Personally, I go the route of 1 canister and 1 wet/dry. I plumb the canister's outlet into the wet/dry outlet to have the least about of stuff in the tank. When doing water changes, I close off the ball valve to the wet/dry and leave the canister running. Works great as long as I don't go below the inlet tubs for the canister. The only catch 22 is making sure you also plumb a backflow valve that will close if you lose electricity.300+RR (8-10 ft x 30"x30") - Waiting to find it... Lake Tanganyikan

i use a wet dry only.heres what you do buy a mag12 and a eshopps overflow rated at 1200gph.then build a wetdry out of a 30 gallon aquarium.i have 10 gallons of bioballs in my wet dry which is overkill biological filter giving you enough for big fish. i use micron poly filter socks for mechanical.buy 10 socks change once a week.when you get to 9 socks throw in washer with little bleach and wash.socks are clean and reusable.best part of wet dry is you can place heaters/temp sensors etc clean look inside your tank.also if you if you run into high nitrates you can throw in a bag of seachem purigen.
then buy a couple of powerheads for extra movement as needed.but a 1200 gph mag 12 will turn your water over 5 times a hour so thats not bad.
