  • Whitest Crushed Coral?

I have been looking for some really white crushed coral, but the one I've seen has a beige tint to it. Is all crushed coral the same or are there some that are whiter than others? Anyone know where I can get the whitest one from and how much I would need for a 40g? Thanks.

Personally, i have never seen really white white coral.
And unfortunately, even the whitest white coral would probably probably turn yellow or brown after being in an aquarium for a while.

If you really want to start with white coral, you'll have to bleach them yourself like what we used to do way back before people even thought to do FOWLR marine aquariums. Throw the coral in a bucket, fill with water, add a capful of bleach and allow it to bleach out.
Rinse thoroughly and treat heavily with prime to remove all the chlorine.

May I ask why you chose crushed coral over aragonite? I bought the whitest aragonite sand I ever saw at city pets when I setup up my tank. I forgot the brand name. It came in 20lb bags and dry. They might have some white crush coral for you.

On the aragonite side I use Caribsea seafloor speacial and it is very white. And it is staying white over time. I have plenty if you need some that I can sell you

Carib Sea Aragonite Select is what I use in my 180g wc moba tank. Here are a few pics:

I went with some type of argonite, but it has been keeping my water cloudy for several days now. Here is what I came up with so far.

What type of fish are you going to keep?

Are you using a power head or circ pump? If not i would move the spray bar down to the same end as the intake aimed towards the other end of the tank. That will give you some circulation and force stuff towards the intake.

Aragonite has to be rinsed over and over and over before placed in the tank. Odviously you didn't rinse it enough my tanks are crystal clear

It's only been a few days. It will clear up. A sponge or sock filter will clear it up overnight.

Well, I added the argonite after the water was in.

Until the fish stir up the sand like most fish do. It's much easier to rinse and rinse it first

I rinsed it at least twenty times. I did about 3 lbs at a time. Spent about 15-20 minutes rinsing it out but it never got completely clear.
