That's what I did. Seems like we both started our 20 gallon tanks around the same time. All I did was add Stability and dry driftwood and my only source of ammonia was whatever is already in my tap water (1ppm). As of Thursday, I still had very high nitrites. Today, they're gone and my tank's ready.
As I suggested before, stop adding ammonia and just add Stability. Do 30-40% water changes every 4-5 days. And stop checking nitrate until the nitrite comes down-- you get a false reading if ur nitrite is high. You could continue doing what ur doing and adding ammonia, but sometimes a very high nitrite can stall a cycle. If you just do water changes and Stability as I described, the ammonia source will be ur tap water and Stability will take care of providing a carbon source and keep your bacterial populations up.
