How do you tell when a cichlid is holding?

    the female spit out the eggs, now I see eggs with tiny little heads all over the ground.  This just happened today.  What should I do??

      That is surprising that she spit them out and they are not quite free swimming yet.  Most all of mine that I didn't strip would not spit them out until they were free swimming.  Is she all alone in the tank?  Did something possibly spook her or something?

        I am going to agree with Hanson on this one.. each time she gets spooked she may eject a few of them out there..  After a short while and things have calmed down she will casually bring them back in her mouth again.   I have seen many years ago a yellow lab drop everything in her mouth when she got spooked and then after a while would pick them up (like 10-15 minutes later)

          I have had them spit in the net when you catch them to isolate.  Sometimes they will pick them back up and sometimes they little ones just have to fend for themselves.

            well theyve been on the sand for a couple of hours now, she is alone in the tank.  what should i do?
