I was just recommending a book in another thread so I thought this would be a good thread to start. Here are some books that are my favorites and why.
There are other planted tank books by Kasselmann, Hiscock, and Walstad that look really good too but i do not own them yet.
- The Complete Aquarium by Peter W. Scott - Well written for beginner and intermediate level alike, brilliant photgraphy, awesome introduction to both FW and SW biotope aquariums which include plants among other elements. All should own this IMO.
- Nature Aquarium World 1-3 by Takashi Amano - These started the 'natural' aquarium craze in the US while the Dutch Garden theme was going strong in europe. Very inspirational with vivid photography. Not much 'how to' though. Vol 1 is out of print and somewhat harder to come by now, but its my favorite.
- Aquarium Plant Paradise by Takashi Amano - Photo quality goes way down but still gives inspriation and much better 'how to', good companion for NAW books.
- Aquarium Plants - Their Identification, Cultivation and Ecology by Karel Rataj - Not very visually appealling but a must have reference book. Pretty inexpensive since it was published in 1990.
- Aquarium Plants - The Practical Guide by Pabloo Tepot - Very good all around planted tank book and would be a great second book after TCA above.
- Mini Atlas of Freshwater Aquarium Fishes by Dr. Herbert Axelrod - Probably the de facto most comprehesive reference of FW fishes at the time published and for many years after.
