  • My LAZY Oscars... & friends

Well, here they are. Fat Boy & Fat Girl, the messiest eaters in the house. I fed them about an hour before taking this video, but the cloudy water remains all the time. It actually doesn't look that cloudy in the video, but in comparison to my other tanks, it is. Water parameters are normal & are checked weekly.

Please excuse the sound of my husband coughing up a lung in the background. They think he has pneumonia & he feels like death.

180g - 2 Red Oscars, 1 Tiger Oscar, 1 JD, Convicts, convicts & more convicts
    75g - 1 Silver Aro, 1 Mean Koi Angel
    50g - Various platy & mollies
    10g - 1 Green Spotted Puffer

Beautiful oscars. Are you running any Purigen in the filter? Might be something to look into if the cloudy water bugs you. Sigh.... Makes me miss my albino tiger oscar. His name was Oliver Twist!

Btw, I hope your husband feels better soon!

You got some big creatures in there! Guessing Fat Boy and Fat Girl are the oscars? Is the water always cloudy? Even after a water change? Mines never gets that dirty unless I overfeed and I don't use purigen (yet!)

Very nice fish. Everyone says purigen is the best thing since glass for your aquarium. I don't use it but I may start.

Hope your hubby feels better soon.

            Nice fish!

How long has this tank been set up again? Also, what's the lights on/off schedule?

Thanks, Bee. Not running any Purigen. Can't say I know what that is but I will learn today!

Yeah, those are our fat babies. They're only about a year old so they've got lots more growing to do. Their water wasn't cloudy when I had them in the 75g but since moving them to the 180g and adding them to it, it is generally cloudy. I'm gonna try the Purigen & other filter media we discussed earlier this week. It may be like Sunny said, that the bio balls just haven't had time to get a good coat of yucky on them. Giving it time.

Thanks, Troy. He went back to work yesterday & he's working today. It's been a LONG week. BTW, the angels are doing great and have already killed the little albino pleco we put in with them & a smaller angel we added the next day, lol. We've now given them names: Damien, Killer, Hitler, Sniper & Demon.

Thanks. Sparticus is ALWAYS moving! He keeps us entertained with his antics. He likes to chase the Lepo when he steals his algae wafer.

Tank has been set up since May 5th. We added the fish mid-May. Lights on/off doesn't really have a schedule. Never on for more than 5 or 6 hours a day, tho. Nothing different with them in the 75g aside from this tank being acrylic & not moving the gravel over with them.

Big tanks take a long time to clear up IME. Give it another month

And wet/dry filters also take their time to mature as well
