I want to paint the back of my tank black. Does it matter what kind of paint I use? Is there anything I should stay away from?

You know rolling it on works just fine. Spray cans get mist everywhere, and a roller puts a nice thick coat on. And theres many options on colors, i use a water based latex seems to work nicely.5 gal baby hecqui grow out

If u use a latex based paint rolled on, then if amd when u need to take it off a flat edged razor does the trick nicely. I had to strip clean amd CLR scrub all four tanks for my stand projet.5 gal baby hecqui grow out

I say latex paint. Easy to remove if needed and just easy to use over all. The down fall with using latex on glass is that it will take many many many coats to cover. Don't rush and slap a crap load of paint on the glass as it will just smudge. Do thin layers at a time. That's from my experience. I thought it wasn't sticking to the glass so I started to put more paint but I was wrong. Lol so I started to do thin layers, letting dry completely before adding another layer.

I use brake parts cleaner to clean the outside of the tank before applying paint. Leaves no residue. Just spray on a piece of paper towel and start cleaning.
As for paint, you can use any of the ones listed above, especially if you're going to use black. If you decide to use blue, I actually prefer the Rustoleum Deep Blue above any other brand.

i used vinyl for the back of a couple of my tanks. depending on the size of the tank petsmart sells that background that you can tape onto the back of the tank. they have one that is black. tearing tape is easier than scrapping paint.
