Tape the whole back of the tank length wise. Therefore you do not have to worry about the cords or HOB's chipping the paint. It is just for protection of your hard work.

Cover the whole glass so the paint is protects when installing/removing plumbing, maintenance, etc...

I used Krylon Fusion. You can get flat or gloss. Before you paint the intakes and or hoses, sand them with a fine grit sandpaper then wipe them with a micro fiber cloth.

put Vaseline on the logo paint wipe petroleum jelly off.

You know rolling it on works just fine. Spray cans get mist everywhere, and a roller puts a nice thick coat on. And theres many options on colors, i use a water based latex seems to work nicely.

I use spray paint on my tank and its as easy as it gets. Just tape newspaper around the side you prefer not to paint and in ten minutes you're done.

+1, i have also used rubber cement to mask, it peels right off when dry

Word of caution. You need to wait along time to let the part cure, as you may loose some fish (made that mistake).

anything inside the tank, 24-48hrs of good curing time.

To be extra sure, wait 24-48 and the soak it in water for another day or so before putting it into the tank. I've used items painted with krylon fushion a few hours after painting but I paint thin layers, heat the object before spraying and heat gun between layers.

Thanks a lot I will post a pic when my tank is done its looking pretty sweet right now waiting for wood trim to dry also
