  • They lost my business

Like most of you I am always looking for new fish. Today my wife was in PETCO and saw some fish she liked and wanted to show me. She was taking a few pics of the fish with her phone to text to me to see if she could buy them. The worker in the store told her she could not take a picture of the fish. She tried to explain that I was working and could not come to the store and that we have multiple tanks at home and spend lots of money on aquariums and fish. The employee did not care and got rude with my wife. Not a smart move considering my wife is a science teacher at a school a block from the store and has tanks in her classroom to encourage students to learn about fish and fish keeping. My wife called me and said we are no longer to spend any money in PETCO.

Why would they not let her take pics of the fish?

They prolly had a bad experience with PETA-types taking pics of animals, posting them on the internet and saying what horrible conditions they are in. But if the tank was clean and the fish healthy...

Thats sounds dumb. I cant believe they acted that way. I think the manager needs a call from you.

I agree with Sunky, Nick & Brain. Another of my hobbies is taking pictures of random things & making jigsaw puzzles out of them. I spent an hour in HEB once with my camera & security came and asked me to stop taking pictures & told me I had to leave, lol.

On the flip side, I regularly go to my local PetCo and take pictures of fish to send to my hubby since he's at work & no one has ever asked me not to. Sorry your wife had that experience. Call the manager and let them know. They may be clueless as to what went on or why the employee acted in that manner.

Yeah, they don't know if you're working for competitors, either. My buddy was told he had to leave a home supply store, because he was taking pictures of items (sending to his wife because his store didn't carry that item), and he was recognized as working at the competing chain.

They have the right to ask you not to take the pictures (whatever odd reasoning it may be), just as you have the right not to shop there.
Tell your boss you need to go home to take care of your "cichlids." It sounds an awful lot like "sick kids." )

Well that and sometimes when u got good customers who like u, getting rid of someone who gets the business back its smart! Most of the people who came to buy from the store was at kinda stopped. As a last resort needing a lil something i can see. But id rather pay a dollar or two morw and get the good service and knowledge that comes with the many good independent stores we have around town. That and meeting other fish friends as well

It was the PetCo on Bay Area in Clear Lake. It would not be a big deal to approach someone and ask them why they are taking pics of fish or products. Maybe offer some sales help and consult the customer. Maybe even help to determine which fish my wife likes, why, and then when she asked about the pics the salesman could be helpful in providing info so my wife could text me. But to be rude to my wife when she tries to explain and offer no help is bad customer service. I use my phone to take pics of stuff in stores all the time. I use them to plan out projects and design things. It is called technology, and I use it to my advantage.

I don't let my wife go into Walmart alone. That place scares even me, but it is more the customers than the employees.

Try to take a picture in walmart you will be asked to leave. these stores put people out there every Tue. Wen. and Thu. to check prieces. If they think that is what you are doing. they will ask you to leave. Is that right? No its Not. But they don't care. The stores like petco don't want to sale to people like use. We keep our fish alive for years. they want to sale to someone that will kill their fish and come buy more.

I go give the people at petco a hard time. ( I ask about fish ) If I know more then they do. Its on. I walk out with out buying a thing.

i think i would have a talk with the manager. i take pics of everything so that i can research it later. if they dont wanna be price checked, then they should just be the lowest and dont worry about it. sounds like an individual employee who wanted to wear his big boy shoes that day. i have found their managers to always be 'customer is always right' types unless i was asking them for MTS out of the tanks.
