Has anyone ever used the bacteria in a bottle aka "Turbo Start" "Quick Start" etc to start your cycle? Which brands do you suggest? Are there any threads on "how to cycle"?

I have used the tetra brand stuff and Seachem Stability I like the Seachem Stability works great to kick things off.

How long did it take your tank to fully cycle after using it?

Heres what use to "jump start" a new tank. Or to get new bio going a lil faster. Mix ur bio in so.e tank water add in a cap full stir around for a while and usually works well. Or if its a completely new tank this stuffs great.

Cycling the tank will vary with product and the type of filtration you have, aswell as what you have in the tank for the bacteria to feed of. Even with a great product like Searchem Stability it can vary. Usually for small tanks I can squeeze filter sponges and add some old media from establish tank and they are near to fully cycled in under a week. I also feed the empty tanks and do daily changes first few days. Then I start monitoring for amonia spikes, and wait for the levels to drop.
Just as a caution point: If you buy one of these products. Store them in a cool place or as directed. I have poisoned a whole tank with stuff I left in the car in the hot sun, on tanks that I wanted to give a boost to (ones that had been empty for a time).

My favorite thing to do is to but filter squeezings, freshwater BioZyme along with granulated carbon under the substrate. biomedia or filter pads from an existing aquarium in your new filter housing will kick things off too. I did this along with a fishless cycle regime (using no fish but dosing 10% ammonium hydroxide daily) during my last cycle and it was complete within 2.5 weeks.
