Place the inlet pipe end under the water, turn the power on. Use a hose pipe to pump water down the inlet. leave the hose in for a couple of minutes, it might help to get someone to tilt the canister slightly to the left, then the right, then back and forth. When the water starts coming out of the outlet you can remove the hosepipe.
Are you still having problems? Â Here's the trick. (We have an XP4, 3 XP3s and an XP2) Â :)
1. Â Empty the canister of all water
2. Â Have the inlet and outflow both in the tank like you are ready to run. (Inlet has to be in deep enough water to get a good suction going.
3. Â On the motor, there is the lever that locks the hoses in, right? Â Make sure that whole part is seated in the motor, but the lever is flipped up to lock the water in the hoses.
4. Â Now, unscrew the cap and use a funnel or something to pour water into the hose.
5.  When it's full, and before plugging it in, flip the  lever down and the xp should prime itself, and you should see it filling up and air coming out of the outflow.
6. Â Watch for the canister to be completely full, or wait about 2 minutes and plug it in. Â That should do it. Â If it's really noisy or still isn't working, check the impeller for damage.
Hope this helps.

Sorry I missed your call, I was asleep after working a 12 hour shift...you know how that goes.
You got some great help already. Â Some canisters tend to be stubborn. Â I know because I have one like that. Â Just keep in mind that canisters work best when under/below the tank. Â
I tried to call you back, but your number is blocked. Â
Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
Thanks Raul, and to everyone else. You guys are the best. One question Raul, The tank is really cloudy with the sand kicking up a bit. Will this settle down or is the output valve too strong?
