Is This Common w/Parrot's? (pictures)

I really like the way these fish look, but I've never really got into FW setups that much... well, except in my younger years... I just wanted to know if this is common with these guys? Take a look at the pics:







The guy has no tail! Saw him at City Pets and almost bought a whole new setup just to take this "misfit" home. He was holding his own pretty well against the others, considering the genetic defect...

I don't know if that's common, but that's amazing! The guy looks pretty plump despite having no tail!

In some cases, they are actually being bred for these deformities. Some even call them 'lucky'. I don't know if CP is deliberately getting fish that look like this, or if this is only one in a group, but I'd steer clear or purchasing it.

They call that a jelly bean parrot. Most of the ones I've seen like this also only have 1 eye as well. fish land has them some times...

In my research on my own parrots, I found this information on the "Heart Parrot": http://parrotcichlid.com/node/15287
About halfway down you will find a section called Dyed & Mutilated Parrots. This will explain the deformity. What these fish are subjected to for profit is cruel & as long as people keep buying them, they'll keep mutilating them.

I like my parrot, he was "adopted" by yours truly after being brought to petco in a bucket. he has a tail. its bad enough that these fish are bred with deformities that make life hard (such as a curved spine and mouth that can't close) but then to cut off their tail? wow. people amaze me.

Mine have tails, too and are not died. Like you, I did not buy them either, Ally. They came with a tank I bought. The jelly beans are pretty common but you'll see a flood of the heart parrots with cute little sayings injected into them (like candy hearts) around Valentines day. Please don't support the cruelty. These & flowerhorns, among others, are victimized by human greed which shortens their life spans & leaves them mutilated. So long as there's a market it will continue.

I try not to support retailers that sell these fish at all. I do see both sides of the coin, however. I agree that this will not stop as long as the demand exists.
