Tank Decoration, Slate question

I've seen in a couple places that I can buy chunks of slate for decoration in the tank... Ok, well, the shipping is high to ship rocks. Anyone see a problem with going to the local bulk tile store and buying a few hunks of slate for the tank? I can break them up a bit and probably use them that way rather than buying "fish tank" slate which I would imagine jacks the price up a bit.... Kind of like saying Lexus rather than Toyota....

I imagine I would take the rock and bake it in the oven for a while to kill anything that might be living in it...

Thoughts anyone?

Screw the tile stores, go to a rock yard or landscaping place where u see pallets of rock and go have yourself a good ol rockin time! Itll be cheaper and you'll have a lots more to choose from and i think u will be happier.

I have a slate bottom in my Angel tank. It came from HD. all you need to do is walsh it with clean water. At a $1.25 a squ. foot. you can't beat it.
But slate can be vained with copper and iron. it wont hurt the fish but snails and shrimp don't like it much...

Got it. Landscaping yard... got one down the street. Gonna oder (I spelled that right... LOL) some fake plants and I'll be cooken....
