  • Dumb canister question

Can I stick an Eheim canister behind my aquarium, on the same surface? Or does it need to be below?

It can be wherever you want, it will actually increase the head pressure and flow rate if it is on the same level.

I seem to recall some stern warnings in the fluval canister documentation to never put it above the level of the aquarium unless you want a wet floor.

I'm thinking about putting a 2213 on this 10 gallon tank. Is that too much? I'll eventually stick it on an ADA 45P or 60P

Hmm, as long as you prime it well I see no issue. Perhaps if you lose power and a prime it might be bad if the impeller is higher then the water in the tank, otherwise it should be fine. Overfiltration is never a bad idea, we usually have extra filters going on many of our tanks just to keep the biological filtration alive and ready. If flow is an issue simply use the quick disconnects to reduce the inflow and that will reduce the outflow. It usually takes about a month or so to develop the bacteria in the system, but once its going we always try and keep them alive for that filtration system crashing for no apparent reason.

          +1 I don't see a problem with a 2213 on a 10gal. Unless you've got fish in there that don't like flow?

Damn, well send it back or you can find black inlets and outlets for nearly any canisters on ebay. Maybe just go ballin and get some lily pipes... especially if it will eventually go on an ADA tank!

I already ordered the replacement and slapped the return label on this one ...

Now I can stare at this Hydor ETH that I can't hook up. Torture!!!

Sweet, well hopefully it will be back in no time. We had an incident with a 2261 and it was frustrating, but soooo worth it....

I got the replacement 2213 and had it set up in less than an hour, along with the Hydor ETH. There were no problems priming it, other than a mouthful of yummy fish water. I had to use a hacksaw to cut one of the PVC pipes.

Is the tubing green some real reason (eg to prevent algae growth) or just for branding? I want to get some more tubing to have on hand, and clear sure is prettier.

The quick disconnects made a water change ridiculously quick and mess free today. And nothing stirred up in the tank! Woot!

I think the green tubing is just for brand purposes. You can still see algae in the tube and it'll still grow in it.
