  • snail problem

    Hello everyone,

Can someone advise me on how to get rid of these small snails in my daughters 10g tank? I think it was transferred over when I bought some endlers and the buyer placed a small plant in the breather bag. I only saw 2 but didnt realize they multiply like mad!

    Thanks
    Norm

+1 He'll even ship them and those snails are Ramshorns. They make for great puffer food or smash them up for fish food.

                snail problem

Alternate viewpoint: snail populations multiply in direct response to extra uneaten fish food, so they're performing a water-cleaning service for you!

Yours appear to be common ramshorn snails and aren't harmful unless you just don't like them!

If you want to do a quick removal then try making a snail trap.

Put a jar in the aquarium with some food in there.

In the middle of the night, it should be filled with snails trying to get to the food. Take out the snail filled jar and that should be a quick solution. You will still need the assassin snail but this should cut down on the time.

And there's really no downside to having a jar in there for one night.

                      Here's an example of one.

That is a method that I've found to not be as effective. I'm not sure that someone should put a clown loach in a 10g, anyhow.

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
