  • What Size Quarantine Tank

I am thinking about getting a Quarantine tank. What size should I get?

10 gallon is a good size so that way you dont use up tons of meds

A 10 gallon is readily available, a 15 gallon isn't. You can pick up a 10 from walmart for $12. As long as you are only planning on quarantining a couple fish that aren't huge a 10g would suffice

I'm pretty sure you can find a 15g unless your in a hurry.

as for a 15g the extra water is good for nitrates and waste also more space for the fish to swim and try to recover.

I think it is dependent on many factors. How often are you expecting to quarantine (once a month, every week?) How long your preparing to quarantine. What are you medicating with, afflictions targeted during quarantine. Remember this is a viable tank, so allowing it to run without any ammonia source would cause a cycle if a very large fish or two were added. This could also function as a fry grow out tank should it ever be needed as such.

I have had a few fish die. Sometimes when I buy new fish. I would like a tank to quarantine my new fish and if I have a sick fish. Hopefully more for new fish.

I have had my 180 gallon tank going for about 3 months and have lost about 15 fish. Some new and some old. I do test the water and do 50% water changes every 2 weeks.

I had Africans & CA cichlids and my CA were pretty big compared to my africans so I have seperated them into 2 tanks.

If I buy new fish they will go into this tank for 2 to 4 weeks before I put them in the 180 tank.

Like every one has said What are you Quarantining? How long? Are you planning on using meds? The size is all about the whats... A 15g is to small for a 12" oscar but a 10g is just right for dwarf cichlids and most other small fish.

Troy read the post before your post. I might quarantine maybe 4 to 6 fish if I buy that many. Just really depends. I am leaning towards a 20 to 30 gallon tank.

4-6 of what kind of fish? 4-6 convicts vs 4-6 peacock bass make a huge difference. Quarantining 4-6 convicts will work in a 10G. If you're quarantining larger fish, go with the 30G. It'll be even better if you can locate a 30G long as with most larger fish, they'll appreciate the larger surface area.
