  • Walmart Fish

I live in Crosby and the only thing close we have is Walmart. Either have to drive to Baytown or East side of Houston to petsmart. I have been looking for some small blood parrots and Walmart had some. They were really small like less than an inch. I wanted to get them, but their fish always look so bad. The tank next to it had a Oscar floating in it. The blood parrots were mixed in with some Africans and they looked really good. Anyone else bought any fish from them or had any problems? Thanks Chris....

If u buy some I would quarantine them for a week or 2 before adding into main tank I've seen some Walmart tanks with healthy fish and some with dead fish everywhere

If the price is wright. I would try the wally world Fish but like alex said I would Quarantine any fish from there. They do get their stock from the same place as the other box stores but they take little care of the holding tanks. One more thing, Never put their water in your tank. it will carry things like ich and other diseas.

Do you have any small ones? I was just there today and I glanced over there and seen some small ones. Just not as small as the ones WallyWorld had.

My wife picked up the blood parrots from walmart a few days ago. I had to work that night, so she floated them and put them in the tank. Not sure what the deal was but they wouldn't come out from behind the heater. She has live plants and a rock structure from them to hide in, but they stay in the same place. She had the idea and I tought she was crazy. She told me that they need another fish in the tank to show them it was alright to come out. So she went and bought 3 small feeder fish and chunked them in. Sure enough all but one of them came out and started acting normal. They are still not very sociable, but they do stay out longer, unless you walk by and then they take off to the plants and hide there. I guess all they need is time...

Dither fish do help bring new fish out into the open. They'll probably eat the feeders though.

Danios are spectacular as dither. And they're active and hardy and fun to watch! And Walmart usually carries both zebra and giant danios.

+1 Aquabee, Giant danios are great dither and surprisingly wonderful looking once they settle in.

Right now the Parrots are small. As they grow they will become more and more active and friendly.
As for dithers, you wife was right.

I've bought a venustus and livingstoni african cichlid from Walmart last year. They are both healthy. The venusus is about 9" and the livingstoni about 6". They were about 1 1/2" when I bought them and they have never been sick. I would quarrentine whatever you buy just to make sure they don't have diseases.
