  • Sump Tank help

    I got 250Gal past two week for $70. it is not leak but I will reseal it because it old tank and it sit outside for 3 years. I want to try to build a sump tank but I don't know how big it should I need 40Gal??? I will have 2 XP4 run with this sump. Please help

    Nice pickup! I would go bigger on the sump. 55 to 75g. lots of medea room.

      Thank you Troy . I have one 55 Gal I might use it. Also, you think if I run 2 of 40 Gal sum will be better???

        One sump is better than two. Less headaches unless you want to drill them and attach them with bulkheads. I'd say get the biggest sump that'll fit under your stand. I have a 50gal sump on my 210gal and I'm still not impressed. I plan to get a canister to help with that.

            I'd say sell the xp4s and do a 75 gallon sump

                Keep an eye out for scratched up 75 gallons. I got mine for $50 bucks and put it under my 200.


                200 - African cichlids
                72 - Salty Bow Front
                33 Cube - community
                10's - Freshwater Shrimp

                  Depends on what you want to do with the tank, but I find that a 55 is too narrow to be a good sump, especially with saltwater where some of the larger (wider) Protein skimmers have problems fitting inside.

                    If you wait long enough, you can find 75gal tanks for $30 or even for free.
