  • suggestions on setting up a 30 rimless cube

Well I acquired a 30 rimless cube and was going to use it for salt but decided against it because I wanted to upgrade my 10 reef to a 60 rimless I plan on getting. Anyways I wanted opinions on either a shrimp/nano fish planted tank, pea puffer tank, tanganikan goby tank (2 breeding adults, or something different. Opinions?

Depends. You got a green thumb?

Up to you. What do you like? What do you want? Each has their own perks.

I think the green thumb is a no go so planted tank is out. (Killed number of plants in my late dwarf chameleon setup). Im leaning more towards the gobies but I just wanted to see whats everyone personal opinion was.

I'm partial to planted tanks. Plants are easier to keep than you think.

most plants will grow just fine if you decent lighting from what i've seen and you don't ever really need to dose anything unless you are trying to grow demanding plants

Yep. And root tabs don't have to be replaced except every 3 months or so, if you're keeping root feeders like crypts.

Gobies can be fun, it is just tough finding a breeding pair. There is a lot of aggression before they finally calm down. Ours took nearly a year and a half before they finally bred for us. I have heard some horror stories of having too many in a tank (4 in a 75 gallon with quite a bit of rockwork). They are certainly possessive of their turfs and once they start growing out will drive any interlopers out. Ours work well with multis, cyps, and petricolas.

depends what you are most interested in doing (plants, breeding, community, etc). i never had much plant luck, but am giving the plants another try with my vacant 10g now. eventually breeding shrimp in it. a lot of people on here are very knowledgeable on plants if you go that route.

when i was looking for suggestions for my 10g, people went with plants/shrimp and smaller shellies. you have more room than i do

Just setup a 40B Pea Puffer tank. 7 pea puffers, and while they are AWESOME, the tank looks extremely empty. I'm going to focus on planting it really heavily so there is more to look at. Right now it's planted, but I just kinda threw all the plants in there just to get them in there. So if you like seeing an active aquarium, the pea puffers might not be for you. But in less than a week they have grown to recognize me and will come out from hiding to feed.
