  • New Eheim 2262 keeping temperature higher??

I recently added an Eheim 2262 to my 215
gallon tank. I previously had just an Eheim 2260. Since adding the 2262 I can't get my temperature to drop below 81. The tank is nowhere near a window and we keep the house at 74 day and night. During the day it gets to 81.6. Is the new heater causing this? It used to stay around 77. That's a big jump. I have clowns, some plecos and Malawi Haps.

81 is not out of the fishes range of acceptable. We never run a heater on our 150 with a 2262/2217. The lighting usually heats it more then enough. I'd just watch that it does not drop below 75 and you should be fine (I imagine year round as well).

I believe the 2262 is to blame. Same situation in my tanks with 2262 canisters and my heaters are turned off too.

I thought that was a big jump when it stayed around 77 previously. Thank you guys.

Thank you. I will reset the heater and controller to keep it from dropping below 76. Although at this rate that may never happen...lol

By the way... Have you checked the temperature of water coming out of the tap during water changes?

Resetting the heater won't help in any meaningful way to be honest

No but I did notice before the 2262 was added that adding just cold only would increase the temp in the tank but that was when it the temp stayed around 77-78. I try to do my water changes in the early morning. Around 6

I think we reached the same conclusion, lol. There have only been a few tanks we ever actually 'need' heaters in and they are weirdo stuff that wants 82-84 temps...

I never needed a heater until I had an ich issue and wanted to raise the temp...LOL

Yeah, I almost forgot about using them for Ich! We had a Sulawesi biotope that needed a temp of 82 and the Tangs like it a bit warmer and have a terrible light so those are the only real tanks that use heaters. Hoping to finish the 75 gallon upgrade to the tang tank and with a better light it will hopefully become a moot point. I know our Cyprichromis colony and Eretmodis pair would like a bit more room. Might even get some more Petricolas and see some breeding from them (they are the last fish in the tank that have yet to breed)

My old tank never left 80-81 degrees when it had 4 canisters. Now with only a wetdry and 1 eheim, it stays the same temp as the room (75). I'll probably need to toss on a heater soon

Funny how you can get so many different answers from everyone...lol
Hate to add to the dissent, but I don't think it's the eheim. I've got a 2262 and a 2217 on my 150g, and the temp never gets above 77 or 78.
What lights do you have on the tank?
