        The colors fading, yes. However if you have a DSB (after a long time~10 years or so) or a sand bed that you don't vacuum in a saltwater reef tank, then you might want to change out the gravel because it will just be leaching nutrients after a while, and vacuuming at this point will not help you

          That's how I do water changes I use the siphons and get as much clean until it fills up the 5 gal bucket I have never had issues with it I just never change the filter an siphon at the same time.
