  • Is this Ick?

I recently added some Neon Tetras.. one of the tetra has this white powdered type of substance on the part of its body.

So far this is the only one with the white stuff on it.

    Is this Ick?

I'll try to take another pic

not ich, maybe some fungus from the move or surface injury from netting.

sometimes white spot can just be injury while in transport or velvet or just about anything. My black goldfish has 3 white spots on one of its fins. I thought it was ick but the 3 spots are still there after 2 months. if it is ick it'll spread quick and you'll know.

I'd suggest a general treatment like melafix

+1^^. Sometimes a lot of different types of tissue damage show up like this, and it gives an opportunity for bacteria and fungus to get in. Melafix is a good general treatment to repair the tissue, then it should clear up.

Awesome. Good luck! It's worked really well for us in the past.

Even salt will help, as long as there aren't any invertebrates or plants. It'll kill fungus, bacteria, and also help heal missing scales and injuries and slime coat disruptions.

doesnt look like ick, which will spread pretty rapidly from fish to fish once you actually see the dots. when it comes to types of fungus or bacterias i have had good experiences with maracyn. just read the labels to looks for symptoms to ensure you are using the right type of medication. some have good Q&A maps to help you determine which med is right for the specific symptoms.

I'd stray from maracyn and maracyn II unless it's something serious. Those are some strong meds.

This. Know what you're treating; otherwise the gentler remedies are best, especially if the affected fish is active and feeding. Sometimes medications can put fish under more strain than the illness or injury itself.

yes maracyn was the heavy guns if it got to that point. otherwise i tried melafix or pimafix first depending on the ailment. thats why i said read the labels and make sure you know what you are treating.

i had a bad infection early this year that wiped most of my 29 gal tank. came in on some fish i bought, and all was fine for maybe a week then bang...was maybe 12 hours from first sign of infection to dead. was horrible but the maracyn saved what was left
