Re: amonnia?
The best method that has ever worked for me is using old filter media from other aquariums.
If I ever had to do it without that media, I have used two other bio-starters that have worked for me. I have used Kent Marine's Ecco-Start, and Marineland's Bio-Spira. All other bio-starters are only marginally effective or do not work.
Best of luck!

Re: amonnia?
If you want to do a fishless cycle you can always go down to your local supermarket (HEB) and goto their fish department. Buy 1 Shrimp (Fresh uncooked with everything attached) for each 50G of water. Go home put them all in a small net float them in your tank for 48-72 hours.. trash your shrimp.. I promise you, you have made enough ammonia to go floating in your tank and the bacteria will form and start the conversion process. Wait 14 days.. add fish.
