  • high nitrates in fishless cycle

I know there already is a thread about this but it is old and I haven''t gotten an answer to what I posted on there I am on my 14 day of fishless cycle on the 7th day of it my ammonia levels went down to 1ppm I dosed back up to 4ppm got high level reading of nitrites and 160 ppm of nitrates I read some where on here some one recommending to stop the use of ammonia and using stability along with pcw my concern is if I was to use stability is there a chance I can kill some of my bb I have read in other forums to stay away from using stability during a fishless cycle. Also after I continue to add stability to my tank for 10 days after stocking it can i discontinue using it or should I continue using it?

i usually cycle with fish, but it just takes time. it can take months to fully cycle a tank without any seeded media or bacteria treatments. the fish will naturally produce the ammonia you need, but cycling with fish can take longer due to water changes.

in terms of stability, after the 10 days you still dose the tank just not as frequently. generally with every water change and/or addition of fish you dose the tank again. there are directions on the bottle but i dont recall the exact dosing schedule.
