That makes much more sense. Your tank seems to be fully cycled. If you're running a wet/dry, you should invest in some micron socks. They will pick up the finest of floating particles. With micron socks and purigen, you shouldn't have any more issues unless the filter is just not pulling enough water through

As I mentioned, the water has been testing fine all along.The fish are doing well and breeding like crazy. There is rarely isn't a time when at least one female is holding, including now.

Nothing personal, but if I had a penny for every time someone said their water was fine without providing parameters, I'd have one heck of a tank up and running! It's always best to get as much info as possible to provide the most accurate recommendation. I think what you're experiencing is just an aesthetic issue that can be handled with the addition of sponges and/or floss

Sounds like you can use a mechanical filter to pickup the floating debris and polish the water column. Maybe invest in a couple powerhead with presponge filter. Add some filter floss in the sump would also help.

i use a combination of carbon and purigen even in my HOBs....if the tank does get cloudy after a water change it clears up within a day or so.

africans breeding doesnt really mean much in terms of water quality. they breed pretty readily even in poorer conditions, so if all the params are as stated with no ammonia, nitrites and low nitrates...they will breed. the cloud is just a bloom and is treated with water polishers like a few stated.

those types of massive changes and cleaning out the filter weekly can break the cycle up a bit like barrett said. when i was running canisters, which i want to go back into using, cleaning every 4-6 weeks was my normal. others go longer than that between cleanings.

you can still use seachem stability with those water changes to keep reintroducing that good bacteria incase the colonies are building up then going down.

I typically do a 10-20 percent water change weekly. The massive ones of late were just to try to clear the water. I do add stability when I do the larger ones. I have purigen below in the wet/dry, but I think I will take one of the HOBs from another tank and put one of the purigen bags in it. I am sure it is just an aesthetics issue, but still.

I agree that the tank is looking cloudy (looks like algae bloom from the side view), but your fish look active and healthy. See if adding an HOB would help. How much purigen do you put? I'm thinking you may need about 3~100ml bags for a 200 gallon.

Have you try using accu clear? I used it for my cloudy tank and it clears up about 2 days. I have 125 gallon tank too. It turn your tank white but it will clear in days..

the haze does look more green from the side view, so it could be algae. do you keep your lights on long?

more purigen could help. those binding agents like accu-clear i had mixed results with in the past. i have larger plecos in my 75gal with my mbuna that do fine for cleaning.

you could also maybe look into a UV sterilizer for the tank. thats of course another investment but those kill off everything.

Update... The tank is much improved. It was probably a combination of things that cleared it up. Here is the combination: First, I left town for a week. That was probably the best for the tank. Before I left I did 2 treatments with a flocculant, added a HOB filter with a carbon bio-bag on one side and 500ml of purigen on the other.
