I had never been to ADG, but just recently realized it is right on my way home from work. So today I googled ADG and it comes right up with the location and hours. Google very, VERY rarely ever fails me so of course I assume it's correct. I go to the ADG website and Facebook page, but don't see anything about their hours. However, it's Monday and every business I know of is open Monday so the information Google gave me sounded reasonable.
I get there about 5 tonight and there's a bunch of ADG trucks outside along with a bunch of people with ADG shirts on going in and out of what I assume to be their warehouse. I saw a few non-ADG cars and trucks in the parking lot, too. I finally figured out where the entrance was, so I parked and went inside. It's a very nice place inside and all the lights were on except for a wall of FW tanks (maybe around 12 or 16). There was no one inside, but it was already late and I just assumed they were either helping someone or taking a short break and they would be back in soon.
I started looking around, browsing all the beautiful aquascapes (most of which I had seen online already) and then I made my way into the fish room. I quickly browsed through the SW fish area, then started looking at what kind of FW fish they had in. They definitely had some nice fish in there and even had one of my favorite Plecos... the Gold Nugget Pleco. I sat and watched him for 5 or 10 minutes just because I've always liked the way he looks, but he wasn't really moving. He was just hanging out, re-positioning himself every now and then. I was checking out the fish in the tanks where the lights weren't on at this point and out of the corner of my eye I caught someone walking in towards the back and then back out again. It looked like he was doing something and I didn't need any help so I just kept looking.
As I was finishing up, someone came from the back of the fish room area. I turned around, said hey and then looked at the fish a little more. About 2 or 3 minutes later he came back and asked if I was here with someone. I told him no that I was just browsing but no one was here when I came in so I hadn't talked to anyone yet. Then to my dismay he tells me that they are actually closed on Monday (I forgot why, probably because I was a bit shocked) and that's why no one had tried to help me. I also never saw hours on the door, but since it was open I just assumed that so were they.
The gentleman was very nice, and he didn't even try to kick me out! He offered to turn the lights on in those tanks and said either he could help me or he could get someone else to help me if I wanted. You honestly NEVER see that kind of customer service, especially when a business is closed or about to close. I told him about my google search and apologized for not knowing they were closed (I'm also pretty thick, so I never put 2 and 2 together). I asked him about a particular fish and he confirmed that they didn't have any of those kind in stock right now, but I could come back and talk to Don about getting it when they were open.
Obviously it wasn't the best fish store experience I've ever had, but I was very impressed by the inside and how this gentleman handled the situation. I'm sure I'll go back again and this time I might even do it during business hours!!!
TL: DR; I got my very own private tour of ADG after work today because I went in (sneakily?) while they were closed
