Nick brought that darter/tetra to my attention and we talked about it for a bit....it sounds really interesting but I wonder how it treats other small tetras/barbs.
It's actually a very peaceful fish, no aggressive tendencies whatsoever!
I put aquarium salt every time I do water changes. I called FG and they said they didnt have any darters at the moment but that Botia Striata are better and dont harm plants. Any thoughs?

A single darter tetra did much better at eliminating snails in my community tank than any loach I have owned. The loaches may control the population; in my case, the darter tetra exterminated all the snails with none left over.
Here's somethings I have done that has worked well for me.
1. Make sure any animals you have in the tank are ok with Copper.
2. Â Use Had-a-Snail three days in a row dose as directed on bottle.
3. Â 75% waterchange on the 4th day, and dose with Copper Safe for a month.
No snails.

If you are unwilling to do some of the major tank overhauls, or are worried about killing the plants, I have had great success trapping and tossing them out. Get a plastic container with a lid (free of chemicals), I use those little half water bottles. Drill a hole in the top of the bottle and place food inside the bottle, Algae wafers are great bait. Submerge the bottle in the tank and hide it somewhere. In the morning the next day, you will find untold numbers of the snails in the bottle and you can just toss em out. Cotton thread can make it easier to pull the bottle back out and not get your hands wet before work. Also, I have threaded a piece of lettuce with cotton sewing thread on dropped the lettuce into the tank. The fish will nibble on it and eat it, and in the morning snails will be all over it. Pull out with the thread and toss out. This will keep the snails in check....but won't solve it entirely.
I have gotten two botias and I have not seen the huge problem that we had but we will see. I am ok with a few since they do turn up the soil a bit but the bowl full ever few weeks was just non-sense.
MTS are a problem why? The surest way to control population is to control excess feeding. Snail populations are reflections of the food available. Less leftover food in the tank = less snails, overfeeding a tank will result in population b(l)ooms. MTS are much better snails then ram horns (IMHO) at least they burrow beneath the gravel when the lights are on and help free the substrate of anaerobic pockets...
