I bought a 90g tank about a year ago and it leaks around the top trim piece. Â I only have the one tank, so I can not drain it and try and re-seal it. Â What should I do? Â How hard is it to remove the trim? Â Can I do it while still holding H2O?

Re: help with leaking tank...
There is a material out there I cannot remember what its called that you can do it while still water in the tank.
Honestly I would strongly suggest if you can find one of the other members out there near Deer Park who could lend you a small tank for a week, to transfer everything you hold dear into it, then drain, re-seal proper and then fill it back up etc...
That is what I would do

Re: help with leaking tank...
Is it only leaking around the top trim? Do you know exactly from where?Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.

Re: help with leaking tank...
Zulaab is right. Â Better to do it right than take any chances. Â
However, years ago I had a 55 that was leaking in the same place you describe. Â I just drained it down a few inches and siliconed where I thought the leak was occurring. Â Let it cure for a couple of days and filled it back up. Â I still have that 55 and haven't had anymore leaks with it. Â I know I took a chance, but really didn't have many choices at the time. Our Fishhouse

Re: help with leaking tank...
I would suggest you use a large trashcan W/o wheels or a 55g drum.'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

Re: help with leaking tank...
either lower the water level down, seal let cure for a few days, refill
or find temporary containers, rubermaid trashcans, kiddie pools, etc...
and drain all the way and clean, strip out old silicone, apply new silicone, let cure, refill.
doing a good job resealing it will help keep the resale value higher, if you ever might want to sell. Â and it will look nicer too.
there are lots of guides online about how to reseal a tank, and some of us here have had experience doing it. Â I'm sure someone on your side of town would be willing to lend you a hand if you needed.
