ok its 10 gallon tank...i have a filter, heater, pool filter sand a couple of crappy rocks, thermometer, 1 goldfish, 1 pleco
what else should i have for my tank...and also i hear people paint the back of the tank....
everyone starts somewhere. decor is personal taste and that can change as your interest grows.
GHAC has a meeting this Friday open to all. the raffle may have something you can't live with out. The friendship is worth the trip.

I'd also get some different fish. Goldfish and common plecos will both quickly outgrow a 10 gal tank. The myth that fish will only grow to the size of the tank is way wrong. When fish do that it's called stunting and results in many health problems for the fish and a greatly diminished lifespan. Many lfs will take your fish in trade for some small tetras or livebearers.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.
yea the pleco is already like 5 inches and im pretty sure its gonna keep growing....it was a hassle trying to get the pleco outta the tank.....and also whats GHAC
also is there a special way to paint the tank or is it just normal...
Acrilic paint & paintbrush work best for me but you can use an air brush if you have one or a spray can if you don't
The old rule is 1" of fish per gallon works but it does not mean one 10" fish in a 10g tank or even 2 - 5" fish. Any pleco will be too big for that tank. Try 5 fish that will not get bigger than 2" each or 10 that will get no larger than 1". You should have some top feeders (mouth on the top of their head) (guppies, platties) some mid-level feeders (zebras, wt. mountain or neon tetras) and some bottom feeders (mouth on the bottom of their heads)(corrys, dwarf cats, or dwarf loaches) and a pair O-cats to clean the green stuff that seems to grow everwhere..
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
As fishboyt mentioned, GHAC stands for the Greater Houston Aquarium Club. You can find out more information about us at www.myghac.org and on this site by clicking here.

Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
