Yes! Thanks for all the replies. This was our original solution, but all the water spigots are too far away from the tank, with out having to use two - 50 foot sections of hose.

It sounds like the Python is pretty convenient, but you just add the water treatment directly into the tank, versus pre-mixing?

I live in a house, an uneven house I might add, which I didn't find out about until after the first time I filled my tank up :) I do envision a day though where my tank is a flush wall mount, plumbed, with backside closet access!

Aging water or pre-treating is by far a better option the relying on good tap water and chemicals to "bind" the impurities till safe.

Yes, the python does sound pretty good. I may have to make one.  :)

                Re: Water Change-outs..

I use a standard 25' python to which I've added 25'. I connect to the kitchen sink and run long enough to start the syphon, then turn the water off, unscrew the hose from the valve and drop the hose into the bathtub to drain. I don't like to keep the water running the whole time the tank is draining because it's a terrible waste of water. Back when I kept houseplants, I'd use the tankwater to water the plants. When 50% of the water is drained, I pick the gravel vac up out of the water to break the syphon, then reconnect the hose to the valve. Once the water is tempered properly, I close the valve and add the dechlorinator to the incoming water as the tank fills. All the tanks get a weekly 50% partial, except the discus tank. It gets a 50% partial every other day.

Python hooked up to sink to vacuum waste along with a 2" (ID) hose out the window to drain the water faster. Then fill with sink.

Thankfully I live in a second story apartment so i use a diy python to start the siphon on the water hose then i hang the hose over the balcony and drain about 75 gallons of water onto the ground in just a few minutes.  then i hook it up to the sink and fill away.  I cant believe i used to siphon into buckets then pickup about 20 buckets, dumb them into the bathtub and then fill it up in the bathtub and dumb.  That really sucked.

I don't think I would be able to pull that off.....~250g a week is gonna make an apt. marshland!

There is a brick wall on the lower unit patio and is elevivated above the ground.    So no water gets on to their patio.  I only do about 150 gallons a week so it doesn't make that much of a mess.  The best thing of all is that i pay only 20 dollars a month for water.  No matter how much i use.  Im sure they dont like me! haha.

nah i lower the hose all the way to the ground so it is not loud.  with the water dropping that far it really sucks it out of the tank.
