    Omg. yall were right... It is a pain in the butt to get these things started but man once you get it going these things are incredible.  You can really tell that the fish are much more lively the clearer that the water gets.  i saw that The website diatomfilters.com said that all the vortex filters have been discontinued due to company problems.  i recommend everyone getting one of these if you can find one.  I will take pictures at the end of the night after im done running it.

      Alternate Procedure.

      You could also put the in and out tubes in the pickle jar mostly full of water and a cup of diatom powder, run the filter while the diatom mixes in the pickle jar.  When the water becomes clear the powder has coated the bag.  Now move the pickle jar (I use a 24oz MUG) into your tank and under the water without losing your vacuum.

      Take the MuG out and you're in business.

        the procedure above is what i used.  it worked really well.
        I love my Fahaka "Peter" puffer.
