  • Hospital Tank

My wifeand I are getting more and more into this hobby, and it's time to set up a hospital/quarantine tank. I have a spare 10 gallon sitting around that wouldnt take much to set up.
I guess my question is, do ya'll keep anything in these tanks all of the time, or does it just sit around with nothing in it? I was thinking of doing a shrimp or crayfish tank.
Thanks for any comments or advice.

No, I usually set up on ahead of time if possible. I'll take 10 gallons from one of my 135's and add a heater and salt and go from there.

We let ours sit dry until it's time to use it, then pull 50% water from the existing tank and add new water to fill it up the rest of the way.  Then we have a small HOB filter running on another tank that we just pull off and put on the hospital tank.

for new fish, I use a bare tank with makeup water (55g barrel of filtered water treated with amquel+, sea salt, almond leaves & now vitimin C)
with a sponge filter & java moss from an existing tank.   My fishroom is always at 82 deg.

For sick fish, I use the smallest tank I have w/ a HOB filter w/o charcoal and no java moss and
clean the tank & filter with bleach when I loose the fish.

He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
