  • Angle fish

I picked up 5 angles from Dan's over the weekend, all are beautiful fish, and seem to be doing fine.
After watching them for a while, I've noticed one angle seems to be bullying the other angles.
None of the angles seems to bother any of the other fish (cardinals, rams and corys)
Is this normal for the angles to do this? are they establish a pecking order amongst themselves?
A couple of the angles looks to have nipped tail fins, but not sure if they were that way when i bought them.

Perhaps that one is just being a little obtuse...
      Couldn't help myself....seriously though.
It's a cichlid, after all. There will be conspecific aggression, perhaps due to thoughts of breeding. Could you please tell us the size of the angels and the size of the tank?

              Re: Angle fish

it just might be a dominance thing.....
as you said....establishing the pecking order of the gang...i would watch him and if he continues to fin nip i'd move him out of there......or put them all in a bigger tank so they'd have room to establish territories.....

                Re: Angle fish

That's pretty common among SA Cichilds like Angels and Discus. They're sorting out their dominance hierarchy.
Keeping them in groups helps spread out the aggression. You should be ok if you have 5.
