looking for a nice piece of driftwood for my 75g tank. i found a couple of pices i like at T&T, but the cost......for a piece of wood.
Where else can I look for drift wood?
I was planing on taking the bike out there tomorrow.....for some reason I seem to never leave empty handed from Dan's....hoping to find a pleco and some Cory's and maybe a nice piece of wood.
What, do you think this stuff grows on trees??? gah!
Tell ya what, CAK is about to post up a tank decorating contest, I'll make sure that some fine pieces of wood are listed as a prize.. give you a chance to get some for free.

You can get free wood in the guadalupe river and it's pre sunk!
I've gotten a few nice pieces at the horseshoe section, at the inlet just after the first rapids.
But you might need to wait for summer unless you have bollocks of steel to go in the water in this temp.
The wood offered in most fish shops is imported.
The naturally heavy / dense wood does not float
so it is ideal for aquarium use
(snails and CAKs can't eat it as fast)
But the weight also make the cost of shipping higher.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
I have seen artifical wood peices at various places. I have 1 stump thing in my tank, it looks alright but it does look artifical, though it didn't look so bad in the smaller tank. I was wondering if anyone had tried the larger ones and what they looked like in the water.
The HAS auction is problemly the cheapest source if you're willing to wait. I got a medium size piece fish gallery recently and the price was decent. They have mostly fresh driftwood (never been in a tank) so you have to soak them in a big bucket and keep changing the water until they don't cause the water to turn brown (I assume brown water tank is not what you're after). People say you can boil the wood to speed up the process but I have not tried it.
