lost another angle fish today.....

I've noticed in the last couple of week my remaining angles have been hiding in the corner of the tank, and the last 2 or so day they have not been eating.
I got home today and found one past away....I'm afraid I'm going to loose the last 2 that's remaining.
I've added an air stone and air pump, and a power head with a sponge to help with aeration about a couple of weeks ago from my last loss.
I tested the water tonight, ammonia was 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 5, pH 8.0, water temp 78.0, and water clear. I'm doing 50% weakly water changes.

why would my angles start hiding, and stop eating? I've had these angles for about 3 months now.

I'm thinking about changing this tank to African cichlids, and setting up a small planted tank for my rams and cardinals.

Are your angels the only fish that seem to be acting differently? Have you added any new fish in the last month or done anything different from your usual routine? Changed the type of food? Is anyone chasing the angels around? Where did you angels originally come from?

Honestly, I'm not an angel expert - there are many on HFB more experienced than I, but when I don't know what is wrong with a fish, I slowly elevate the temperature and add salt. Frequent water changes is a plus. Hopefully someone will be able to come along and say exactly what is wrong...Good luck.

so far no other fish seem to be affected. last fish added were some sword tail that I added about 3 weeks ago or so. From what I have noticed no one seams to bother the angles. The angles came from Dan's. been feeding them the  same food, tetra brown top (tropical flake food) and sometimes frozen blood worms.

Sorry to hear.  Everything sounds fine there.  I am no expert but had an angel die last week, my water was cloudy though.  Sounds like you are doing everything right, and someone told me that sometimes this happens with angels that they unexplicably die.  Sorry for your loss and hopefully the other two get their appetite.

The only thing I can think of is maybe your PH is too high for the Angels. I have 5 angels in PH 6.6.
Ph levels for angels are between 5.8 & 7.0. I can't think of any other reason. Sorry for your loss. :(

update from today. this morning i found one angle passed away, and one of the rams passed on.
could high pH be causing my loss of angles and rams. I started with 5 angles, and 6 rams, now I'm down to 1 angle and 2 rams.
no other fish seem to be affected (13 cardinals, 5 sword tails, 5 corries)
How would I go about lowering the pH level in the tank?

Are they very emaciated (most noticeable around their heads) and stopped eating? You might try metronidazole. It's a parasite med. Can be found in General Cure and other brands.

Whats a good parasite med? Anything I can get from pet co/smart? or will I need to go a aquarium store? the closest fish store is t&t reptile.
I've been using seachems prime, How is there ParaGuard?

It could be, Rams require the same ph as angels. It's something to check into. I would call Dan tomorrow or shoot him a pm and ask him what he thinks. I'm no expert but I do have Rams and Angels in the same tank. My substate keeps my ph low. You could also use proper ph to lower it. I've used it before with great sucess. They sell it at petsmart. But before you go out and buy some, don't take my word for it. Call Dan. I'm not real big on using chemicals, that's why I changed the substrate. :)

In my opinion, it's got to have metronidazole in it. PetsMart has it, as does Fish Ranch in Rosenberg. You need to act quickly. I am speaking from experience. It takes a couple of days to "kick in".
