  • THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL FISH - HOW MUCH DOeS IT COST!

There is no fool like an old fool! I forgot where I was yesterday and mentioned the availability of a fish and showed it's picture on the forum!  Now I was expecting people to say that they were interested and not start a bidding war! First mistake showing the adult male photograph! Not just an adult male but one in breeding colors. The fish are JV's and only 1.25 and 1.5 inches long!!! I forget that beginners may not realize that it could take a couple of years for a male to reach the size and colors shown in that photo and only if he receives the best of food and care. We all start out by asking the price of a wonderful looking fish! Those of us who have been around the block have paid for this by watching some of these beauties die.

I have learned 1) DON'T ask the store operator unless you know him/her their job is to make money
                         2) DO look and read before you purchase. This forum is an excellent place to start!
I did this yesterday by checking with the HCCC and reading two excellent articles on
this species. THEN I wrote the person who was offering these fish to me for further details.
I kind of wish I had done this in advance of writing the forum letter.
                          3) DO have everything ready before you bring the fish home!!!!

As the climber said before belaying down the cliff, 'I know I forgot to check someth...i....n.....g!'

i hope that you are not referring to some of us as "dumb" enough to think that we would be getting full grown fish.....
not everyone is new at this hobby...i'm not really sure how to take this post from you at this point.....but i assure you not all of us think that we'll get the big one's for little of nothing....there are alot of people on this forum that pay very nice prices for our prized fish.....and yes we have had some losses along the way.....hence the helping hand of fellow fishboxers and the advice they have to help all of us learn by our mistakes...

so just what are you saying in your philadelphia lawyer lingo here paleoguy?

Some folks just don't read or jump to conclusions too fast!

THE ONLY PERSON I WAS ACCUSING OF BEING DUMB WAS MYSELF!
I AM TRYING TO GIVE GOOD ADVICE TO NEWBIES!
THAT'S THE PURPOSE OF THIS COLUMN - TO PASS ON INFORMATION
I USED MYSELF AND MY MISTAKE AS AN EXAMPLE TO ENCOURAGE
RESEARCH INTO NEW ANIMALS PRIOR TO PURCHASE. I FEEL THAT I
GOOFED BY NOT FOLLOWING MY OWN RULES AND FORGETTING MY

I don't recall a "newbie" that asked for any advice?

I may be new to the hobby, but I just happen to be quite intelligent and yes, I too can do research.  I bought a trio of very rare Madagascars at an auction (becasue they were PRETTY) and I subsequently had to do an enormous amount of research due to the fact that very few people know anything about them (no one here on the box has any that I'm aware of).

My Paratilapias are quite happy, tripling their size in just over a month, and are looking forward to the very large home their mother is currently getting ready for them.  Yes, I probably bought these fish prematurely, but as with any path there are lessons to be learned- sometime the hard way.  A newbie should jump right in and get their feet wet without the fear of an old salt cutting them off.

BTW, I am still interested in the Pundamilia Nyereri (because they're so pretty) :)

              Cheers.....

Re: THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL FISH - HOW MUCH DOSE IT COST!

If you guys really want this fish. Give me 6 -8 months to grow some out. I have a breeder that has these. I will try to go and get a pic. I know it is a  Nyereri , but not sure which one. It does look like the on on the pic, but I will take another. It will definately be 6-8 months, cause he doesn't sell anything that is smaller than 1.5-2 inches or larger. usually at least 2 inches.

'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
