  • Cheap but good sand

Okay, irregardless of the color what kind of sand do you use and where do you get it? Please also mention if you've had any problems with the sand messing up your impellers in your filter.

Pool filtered sand from Leslie's is the best stuff i've found. it has clogged my filters before but it only took 2 seconds to unclog and then it was back to normal. anybody know where to buy black sand?

I also use pool fliter sand from Leslie's Pool Supply and haven't had any problems. Just make sure you rinse it good before putting it in your tank.

Blasting sand contains high levels of iron...necessary for the blasting it is used for...so it could cause issues. Unless they have changed the make up of the stuff. Last time I checked it had iron shavings in it which gives it that darker color.

pfs is all i use, it doesnt mess with water chemistry, andlooks great, also it is a heavy larger grain sand which is what keeps it in your tank and out of your filters, but it still has that smooth sand feel.
