    Re: VERY IMPORTANT DILEMMA

If anything the lower tiers should be the ones giving discounts since the pay a lot less.... the higher tier should not be required to give discounts since they already pay the higher amount.

      Re: VERY IMPORTANT DILEMMA

That could all be worked out........there are a lot of LFS's in the Houston area........and it just seems that HFB would be a natural advertising source for them........the HFB membership is pushing 1000, which is a large block of potential revenue for a store that advertised here....none of the local fish clubs have anywhere near this kind of membership. We are more or less a captive audience for the right ads on here. I'm not saying I want to be inundated with pop-up ads for Petsmart and Petco but ads for local stores could be made to fit into the website. If each of our members were to print out an HFB membership card and gave it to the LFS where they shopped then that LFS would see how many HFB users shop with them. As I said before..........

*If you disagree with this then just write it off as the nonsensical ravings of a madman.*

        Re: VERY IMPORTANT DILEMMA

Well I agree that the advertising of LFS's would be great here on a local forum but in all honesty I think the main or only one that is really active and actually supports HFB is Mike's.

There is also FishRanch but with their ownership transfer that might be awhile before something happens with them.

I see most of the other LFS's on MARSHreef already and truthfully the majority of their customers are Reef people.

          Re: VERY IMPORTANT DILEMMA

It seems that Mike got disowned, :(  Hes no longer a supporter due to some undisclosed reason.I really dont pay any attention to advertisements
on this site to be honest with yall.I do seem them from time to time but doesnt strike my curiosity. The best thing would be to try to find out how much the site needs and to donate, and maybe do something like marsh reef, have members that pay for thier privilages and guest that can just view w/o participating.

            Re: VERY IMPORTANT DILEMMA

I am new to Houstonfishbox, but have found it to be an invaluable asset in my pursuit of like minds and information as far as my hobby is concerned. I think that if we can get a $ amount for an annual hosting fee with about a 10% overage for unforseen problems or as a built in back up fund we can work toward getting it met. I think among all the members here we can put together an informal fishbox day with cake sale, food sale, auction, swap meet, competitions, games and make it a fun event to meet fellow box members as well as meet financial obligations. I do not want to offend but this is not the time to discuss lfs issues, paypal issues, banking issues or the like, this is the time to solve a simple problem. There is a need for money, how do we meet that need?

              Re: VERY IMPORTANT DILEMMA

I think all the other conversation comes into play because we are all waiting on magical dollar figure needed to fix the problem.  Since we haven't seen that dollar figure yet, everyone speculates on how to fix the problem and then we discuss the issues with the speculated fix.  It's just the way things tend to work here for some reason.

Yeah, Ken, tell us how much we need to raise, and we will! A fishbox day sounds like a cool idea though! Would everyone be willing to put it together, though? That kinda stuff takes a lot of planning and behind-the-scenes man-power... I vote have it at Ken's house!!! ...Er, Ken, where do you live...? LOL!

                  Re: VERY IMPORTANT DILEMMA

Yeah, I agree with Hanson....if we know the monthly or quarterly amount needed, maybe raising it by simple donations wouldn't be much of a dilemma after all, even if many members choose to donate very little.  The raffles and so forth would be fun, but you never know how much you'll raise. I would not be at all offended if asked to pay some set amount as a member but not so sure about monthly, as my memory is pretty atrocious.  This site is the best I've ever run across. The info is great and best of all is knowing that the members are really local folk. I want to see it go on and on.

I second that PH, if we get a set quarterly amount I will gladly donate toward it.

                        Re: VERY IMPORTANT DILEMMA

Well, I went ahead and donated toward the cause, a friend of mine doesn't have paypal but also donated.

I am not sure why the needed amount has not been posted. Many sites I belong to keep a tally for the amount needed and the amount donated so far.  Is there a chance of that happening here. I have the feeling that if that were the case things would work out fine as so many people enjoy this site.

I'm pretty easy going and all, but I am feeling a bit alienated.  I would like to know how much $$ we need to make the site strong.  I would like to know what needs to happen in order to make someone a sponsor.  hmmm I'm wondering what else is on my "would like" list other than a million dollars.  Oh yeah.....whirrled peas.
