I've never been good a posting on stuff but I though that I would give it a try. My name is Beth. I have one 20 gallon tank with two african feather fin catfish, 6 platys and one black skirt tetra. I do know that my tank is over stocked but there was really no choice in the manner. My lone tetra is the last one from my aquitic science class six years ago and one of the catfish I've had for two years. (Both are very special to me) Both where the only thing in that tank. The others where in a different tank at a friends house that broke in a move so I've took them in. (Friend dosn't want them anymore because he dosn't want buy another fish tank. ) I'm getting ready to put a second tank together for the new fish but haven't picked a size yet. I'm hopeing though to get this done very soon. Also I was wondering if there are any other fish stores in houston? I would like to see some place other then PetSmart and will not buy anything at Petco. That's about it for me, I'm looking forward to spending time on the board.

Welcome to the Box! Believe it or not, before this forum, I wasn't really comfortable posting either. But the people here are very helpful and easy to chat with.
There's a Local Fish Store map here --> http://houstonfishbox.com/viewarticle.php?articleid=4

Welcome to the Houston Fish Box.
To help you with a few of your questions.
Yes there are so many fish stores in the Houston area that you will never need to visit Petsmart again (hopefully you dont live in Katy because then there will be a little travel required -- I live in Katy and my nearest store is 10 miles from my home) -- Prices at the local fish stores are much cheaper than Petsmart.
When getting a tank. I dont want to sound crazy, but measure the spot you would like to put the tank at and get a tank that fill out the spot. Make a tank part of your living space rather than something that just sticks out like a sore thumb.
My recommendation for anyone who wants a "bigger" tank is going to be the 68/70g tank. It has a 36" x 18" bottom. It can handle any fish that gets up to 6" in length. There is a local tank maker that makes the tank with tops, lights and stand for about $225 (someone at FRII needs to jump in here and say the exact price)
To that all you need is a filter and a heater...
There is always craiglist where you can find many of good deals at too :)
If you could tells us where your are located at there are plenty of stores around.
Just need a general area and we can point you to a ton of places.
Well again welcome to the Houston Fish Box :)

Hi and as all the others have done...Given the Big welcome from Texas...
Now, I am not from Texas... Ohio tho... But I did learn a thing or two about Craigslist....... I have gotten all my big 135 gallon and 90 gallon tanks from Craigslist..... one of the 135 gallon was only 80 dollars when I got done wheeling and dealing..
As far as the space measurement!! Excellent idea.... If you have to move a couch out of the way... for that 8 foot long tank!! Go for it..
Anyway... Again.. Welcome...
Bill
